The History of Re-Lek
Back in 1988 I started my apprenticeship and started to learn my trade, it was a time of recession and like a lot of apprentices we mostly ended up getting laid off. I got lucky in 1990 as I got taken on by a company called Re-Lek Services to complete my apprenticeship and then for around 16 of the next 19 years it is where I got to learn not only my trade but also my standards of workmanship my work ethics and my integrity.
I had a couple of great bosses (Hopefully they both approve of the resurrection) and some great workmates to learn from.
The work was varied, one day I could be in a roof space of a house doing a rewire and the next I could be in a factory installing complex control systems or specialist equipment.
The rules were simple, be on time, work hard, do a good job, don't cause any problems and always be nice to the customer.
We started to do more and work for a company in Northamptonshire called Ilmor Engineering who manufactured the Indy Car Engines for Chevrolet in the 80's and 90's who then over the years morphed in Mercedes Benz High Performance Engines.
As you can imagine the standards were high but the job satisfaction was too.
Working in a F1 engine factory was a fantastic environment to work in especially when a world champion F1 driver popped in for a factory visit.
I can remember joking with some of the test engineers when the KERS system McLaren used in 2008/9 when they told me we'd all be driving electric cars one day.
Unfortunately the owners of Re-Lek retired and closed for business in 2010 just as another recession struck. I moved on.
Although I've worked for some good companies since I've never managed to get that same job satisfaction feeling as I did then.
So when picking a name for my new company I thought I'd go back and bring the Phoenix out from the flames as I still hold the same high standards s I did then.
